Local SEO in South Florida: How to Win the Map Pack in a Crowded Market

Three slots, thousands of competitors
When someone in Miami searches “IT support near me” or “marketing agency Doral,” Google shows three local businesses on a map before any regular result. That map pack captures a huge share of local clicks and calls – and in South Florida, where every service category is saturated, the gap between slot three and slot four is the gap between a ringing phone and silence.
We’re based in Doral and compete in this exact market ourselves, so this isn’t secondhand advice. Here’s what actually moves local rankings, organized around Google’s three local factors: relevance, distance, and prominence.
Relevance: make Google certain about what you do
- Fill out every field of your Google Business Profile. Primary category is the single highest-leverage setting – be precise, not broad. Add every legitimate secondary category and service.
- Mirror it on your website. A dedicated page per service and per area you serve, with consistent naming. Our own service area pages exist for exactly this reason – one clear page per city, from Miami to Fort Lauderdale.
- Use LocalBusiness schema so machines can read your name, address, phone, hours, and service area without guessing.
Distance: you can’t move your office, but you can widen your footprint
Proximity matters and you can’t fake it. What you can do is stop losing searches you deserve: build real, useful pages for each city you serve (not doorway-page spam – actual local content with local proof), and make sure your service area is set correctly in your profile. In dense metros like Miami-Dade and Broward, neighborhood-level targeting – Brickell, Coral Gables, Aventura – often beats fighting for the city-wide term head-on.
Prominence: the compounding factor
This is where markets are won, because most competitors are lazy here:
- Reviews, systematically. Not a plea in your email signature – an actual process that asks every happy customer at the moment of a win, mentioning the service and city in their words. Velocity and recency both matter. So does responding to every single review.
- Consistent citations. The same name, address, and phone across every directory that matters. Cleanup is unglamorous and it works – we maintain a whole directory listings service because of how often this alone moves rankings.
- Local links. Chambers of commerce, local associations, sponsorships, local press. A handful of genuinely local links outweighs a pile of generic ones.
The 90-day reality check
Local SEO moves faster than national SEO. A focused push – profile rebuilt, reviews flowing, citations cleaned, city pages live – typically shows measurable map pack movement inside 90 days. If you’ve been “doing local SEO” for a year with nothing to show, something on this list is being skipped.
